JEAN-MARIE BAROTTE Retrospettive
Milan, Fabbrica del Vapore
from 5th to 30th October 2024
Curated by Chiara Gatti and Marco Bazzini
Artistic direction by Maria Cristina Madau
The retrospective exhibition traces the artist’s journey starting from 1987, Au commencement était le signe -the beginning of his pictorial journey during international tours with the theatre- up to Tout se tient en équilibre précaire, December 2020, a month before his death.
To highlight the itinerant research, both in a geographical sense and in the spirit of the countries that have enriched his culture, the exhibition includes three first stops in the most significant places for his personal history: Milan, the artist’s birthplace and where his artistic production began; Nice, the city of his childhood where the artist decided to be buried, and Ibiza, the island to which he was particularly attached for more than 40 years and in which he produced a significant part of his work.
In this regard, contacts were made with the Municipality of Milan to identify a suitable city venue to host the retrospective; contacts will be made with the Municipality of Nice where also a suitable city space will hopefully be earmarked for the exhibition; for Ibiza, contact will be made with the exhibition space of the Diario de Ibiza, where the artist already exhibited in 2017.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a monographic catalogue published and edited by the Silvana Editoriale publishing house.
